Marvelous error
Happy New Year!

Here is an excerpt (and a few lovely examples of metaphor) from a poem by Antonio Machado entitled “Last Night As I Was Sleeping.”

Last night as I was sleeping,
I dreamt – marvelous error! –
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart,
And the golden bees
Were making white combs
and sweet honey
from my old failures.

Throughout this brand new year, I wish for myself the ability to see in my mind’s eye the beehive, the golden bees, the white combs, and the sweet honey, busy and beautiful within me, available at any moment I need to remember them. I would like to view failures and regrets as truly rich opportunities for expanding my capacity for wisdom and joy.

I wish this for you, too.
