The world's longest place name?
I was shopping at our local grocery store a couple of days ago and saw a bin of children's books selling for ridiculously low prices. We have kids in our neighborhood who drop by from time to time and I wanted to have some things on hand to do with them, so I bought a few of the books. I'm also always on the lookout for useful pictures to use with my adult ESL students.

Anyhow...one of my acquisitions was The Children's Encyclopedia, "Packed with essential facts of discovery inside."  Here's a funny little factoid from this fascinating tome:

The World's Longest Name

Tetaumatawhakatangihangakoauaotamateaurehaeaturipukapihimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuaakitanarahu is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as being the longest place name in the world. It's the name of a hill in Hawkes Bay in New Zealand. It means, "The brow of the hill, where Tamatea, the man with big knees, who slid down, climbed up and swallowed."  Mmmmmm. There are a number of questions I could pose about this name and none of them are answerable.
